ASYAD Container Terminal, Duqm Welcomes CMA CGM VASCO DE GAMA, Reinforcing Its Capability to Handle Ultra-Large Container Vessels with a capacity of around 18,000 TEUs
Duqm– 20 July 2026: Asyad Container Terminal – Duqm (ACT) welcomed the arrival of the M/V CMA CGM VASCO DE GAMA, marking the vessel's inaugural call at the terminal and establishing a new milestone as the largest container vessel ever to berth at ACT.
With a carrying capacity of around 18,000 TEU, the arrival of the CMA CGM VASCO DE GAMA highlights ACT's readiness to serve the next generation of ultra-large container vessels. Backed by the recently implemented Navis N4 Terminal Operating System (TOS), the terminal offers globally recognized digital operating standards alongside modern infrastructure and deep-water access, delivering safe, efficient, and reliable vessel operations.
Commenting on the occasion, Omar Al Mahrizi, CEO of Asyad Ports & Freezones said: "We are pleased to welcome the CMA CGM VASCO DE GAMA on her inaugural call to ACT Duqm and the trust CMA-CGM have put in ACT. This milestone reflects both the capability of our terminal and the confidence that leading global shipping lines continue to place in Oman's maritime sector. As cargo volumes and industrial investment continue to grow, ACT remains committed to providing world-class service and supporting the development of Duqm as a strategic gateway connecting regional and global markets."
Port of Duqm is strategically located on the Arabian Sea, occupying a unique position on the principal East-West maritime trade corridor linking Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. This location offers shipping lines the opportunity to access regional and international markets while supporting supply chain resilience, operational flexibility, and future network optimization.
The milestone further reinforces the long-term vision of the Sultanate of Oman to develop Duqm as a world-class integrated maritime, logistics and industrial hub in support of Oman Vision 2040. Through continued investment in port infrastructure, logistics connectivity, and industrial development, Duqm is steadily strengthening its position as an important gateway serving regional and international trade.
As industrial activity within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm continues to expand, ACT is well positioned to support growing import, export, and transshipment requirements through dependable, efficient, and customer-focused container handling services.
