As part of its ongoing efforts to qualify and train national cadres, Asyad Drydock, part of Asyad Group, celebrated the graduation of trainees from Duqm Industrial Training Institute (DITI) today, Tuesday, March 7, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, as part of the National On-the-Job Training Program.
The graduation ceremony was held at Asyad Drydock in Duqm under the auspices of His Excellency Sheikh Nasr bin Amer Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Labor, and in the presence of Dr. Ibrahim bin Bakhit Ibrahim Al Nadhairi, Chief Executive Officer Asyad Shipping & Drydock, and several senior officers from the Ministry of Defense and officials from various government agencies.
The six-month training program was created in response to Oman Vision 2040's goals of increasing Omanization rates in a variety of technical professions through qualifying the Omani talent and providing them with the knowledge and experience required to occupy industrial sector jobs, helping them enter and compete in the job market, and fulfilling young people's career aspirations.
To prepare for employment in technical, maintenance, preventative, security, and occupational health programs, the trainees worked with an experienced team of instructors. Also, they participated in theoretical sessions that were reinforced by hands-on training at various Asyad Drydock facilities, including field exercises simulating actual ship repairs.
His Excellency Sheikh Nasr bin Amer Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Labor, praised the training program's contribution to the development of the Omani workforce, stating: "This training program is the outcome of close co-operation between the Ministry of Labor and Asyad Group. It aims at graduating batches of young Omani cadres qualified to work in the industrial and marine sectors, in accordance with the Ministry's directives and Oman's vision 2040 towards an inclusive higher education that leads to a knowledge-based society and competitive national capabilities.
The Ministry will keep putting its On-the-Job Training Program into action so that young people can get the skills they need to find jobs in the growing sectors of the national economy and be significant supporters of the Omani industry.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim bin Bakhit Ibrahim Al Nadhairi, CEO of Asyad Shipping & Drydock, explained that “Asyad Drydock puts all the capabilities of its industrial training institute in the service of Omani youth, in implementation of Asyad Group’s people strategy, which focuses on developing national talents and competencies providing them with expertise, and preparing them for the work environment through a package of training programs in various disciplines relating to shipping.
“We are pleased to co-operate with the Ministry of Labor to provide the necessary support through the specialized vocational programs offered by the Duqm Industrial Training Institute in accordance with the highest international standards”, he added.
Asyad Drydock DITI provides an opportunity for ambitious Omani youth to work in marine engineering, ship building and maintenance, and other industrial sectors. This helps establish a solid foundation of skilled national competencies, allowing Asyad integrated logistics system to develop its people and capabilities and enhancing Oman's position as a global logistics hub.
